But the phrase \u201cmuscle confusion\u201d leads to a lot of, well, confusion. Your body is a highly adaptable machine, and through repeating the same movements, it will start hitting plateaus and you\u2019ll stop seeing results. People think that\u2019s when you need muscle confusion.<\/p><p>But the idea behind muscle confusion is that you change your training at certain intervals to\u00a0<em>avoid<\/em>\u00a0plateaus.<\/p><p>The term \u201cmuscle confusion\u201d first became popular with branded workouts that offered different ways to stay out of a rut by constantly changing your routine. It was used to sell the idea of constantly changing your workout to confuse the muscles and avoid plateaus.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-04e89d7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"04e89d7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The importance of rest<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8cbcbbf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8cbcbbf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Another way people incorrectly apply the concept of muscle confusion is by simply intensifying their existing workout. When they hit a plateau, they\u2019ll up the weight or duration to get more results. Bad move, Monaco says. When you do that, you could again be denying the rest that your muscles need to grow.<\/p><p>\u201cRest is a vital component to training,\u201d he says. \u201cIt often gets overlooked.\u201d Rest is key to exercise success. Always listen to your body. The period of rest after exercise is when your body is getting stronger and your cardiovascular system is improving.<\/p><p>\u201cWe coach our trainers to perform an assessment about how the clients are feeling today versus previous workouts,\u201d Monaco says. Simple check-ins like \u201cHow are you feeling today?\u201d or \u201cDid you rest after the last workout?\u201d actually are important steps to take to maximize your progress. He\u2019ll ask about their results and their targets. After talking with him, they\u2019re in a better position to reach their goals.<\/p><p>He has seen how different people\u2019s goals can be, and how much they crave variety.
